I took in Ling in 2008 because he was having behavioral issues in his home. His owners were going to euthanize him... He took a while to adjust to my house, but then was a complete lover! I thought his previous owner having kids was the cause. I was wrong. He was simply a needy cat. More needy than I could accommodate. The behavioral problems started up again. Out of the blue a woman came into the vet clinic I was working for looking for a kitten. I directed her towards the local humane society, but then showed her a picture of Ling. She was in love! Her only other pet was a rabbit. She wanted a cat she could cuddle with and that would follow her around the house. Needless to say she got Ling, and for the next couple years she updated me on him. Last I heard, he had a new kitten friend and doing great!
DOODLES
In 2009, Doodles came from a family that wasn't allowed to have dogs in there apartment. They were threatened with an eviction if they didn't get rid of her that day. Looking for help, they came into the vet clinic I worked for. I couldn't resist her adorable, little face! She was 9 months old and full of life. I took her by my mother's house during my lunch break, just to show off this cutie, and mom was immediately drawn to her. Over the next month she was spayed and had a refresher in crate and house training. She has been enjoying her life with mom ever since. Doodles is such a sweet little dog that loves people and will play for hours with other dogs.
MITZI
In 2010, Mitzi came to me when her owner became overwhelmed with her pets, and needed to re-home a large number of cats and dogs. She was a 5 year old, 8#, Pomeranian, that was just a doll. She was very used to other pets and got along great at my house. She ended up being placed with a wonderful man, and a new Pom sister. She has been pampered even since!
LUKE
Lukie came from the same home as Mitz. He didn't stay with me, but was re-homed through me. A woman who worked at the humane society had a real soft spot for senior dogs, thought he was all of it. Luke got all the vet care he had been lacking, and got along great with with the resident female Basset Hound. He even has his very own baby pool!
CATTY
Catty, a beautiful Australian Cattle Dog mix, was my first foster dog. She came from a client at the vet clinic I worked for in 2009. His family did not research the breed before getting her, and was not able to keep up with her high energy. She was headed for the humane society, when my heart strings were pulled. I'm a sucker... especially for herding breeds. Her owner relinquished her to me, hoping to find a more compatible family. Catty was a handful! Typical 10 month old hyper pup. We worked on her house, crate and leash training. She loved my cats and dogs! She was so sweet, but so full of energy, I knew it may take a bit to adopt her out. After about six weeks, the perfect family came along. They had another ACD, and wanted a dog to do 4H obedience with. Catty fit right in! Her and her new brother, Doc, loved each other. To this day they are still working with her to make her the best dog she can be. What more could I ask for?!
FOXY
Foxy came to me in 2010, when I was informed by a third party that her owner lost interest in her after a few short months. They were putting up fliers for a free, 8 month old longhair Chihuahua. She wasn't spayed or up to date on her vet care. I was afraid that someone would pick her up to use for breeding, so I arranged to take her. The owner wasn't even there when I picked her up! Her roommate handed off this little 5#, bouncy pup. She was too cute! Of course, the day I got her she went into heat. Eventually, she was spayed and caught up on her vet care. She had the best temperament and loved other dogs of all sizes. After having her for 4 months, and a number of unacceptable homes turned down, the perfect couple came along! They had a little male Chi that Foxy (now Roxy) immediately fell for. Last I heard from them, she was still doing great, and her and Rambler (below) are best friends.
KARMA
Karma, is a Sheltie that came from a horrible situation in 2010. She was adopted from a western Illinois animal control. The well-meaning woman, had done no research and asked no questions about Karma when she picked her up. It was obvious she had a UTI, internal and external parasites, was not spayed, and had not even been bathed. Her age wasn't known, and to top it off she was in heat. I had never been so disappointed in an animal shelter! The woman who adopted her, could not afford any vet care and relinquished her to me. She was wormed and treated for her UTI right away. Realizing she required more medical care sooner than I could provide, I contacted Central Illinois Sheltie Rescue. They picked her up in a couple days. She received the best care possible through them.
Here are a few more pets that myself and friends have helped out-
Odessa & Zipporah
Two Siamese girls from the same home as Mitzi and Luke. They were lucky enough to be adopted together!
Demetrius (aka Twitter)
He is a Birman that a friend fostered from the same owner as Odessa & Zipporah. He was adopted through the same no-kill shelter as Sophie, but stole the hearts of the volunteers first.
Sophie
She is a gorgeous Siberian x Highlander, who also lived with Odessa and Zipporah. Two of her litter mates and her father went to a wonderful farm where they got the quiet they deserved. Sophie went to a no-kill shelter, where she was adopted to a lovely family.
Jax & Lynx
These two were semi-feral kittens found outside of the clinic I used to work for. After about a month of socializing, they went to a great home together.
